Nitrogen gas (N2) is a nonpolar molecule, meaning that its electrons are evenly distributed around the molecule. As a result, N2 molecules experience only weak intermolecular forces called London dispersion forces. London dispersion forces are temporary, weak attractive forces that arise when the electrons in a molecule are momentarily distributed unevenly, creating a temporary dipole. These forces are very weak, and they only become significant when the molecules are very close together.
