  • Urethra and Urine Flow: How Your Body Eliminates Waste
When the bladder empties, the urine exits the body through the urethra. The urethra is a small tube that carries urine from the bladder to outside of the body. The external sphincter muscle is located at the end of the urethra and controls the release of urine. When the bladder is full, the pressure on the urethra causes the sphincter muscle to relax and urine is released.
