    It depends on the material of the suture.

    Generally, chromic gut will dissolve within 90 days,

    whereas polyglycolic acid will dissolve within 60 days.

    Most absorbable sutures are completely gone by 6-9 months.

    Nylon, prolene, and silk sutures are considered non-absorbable

    - They must be physically removed after the wound has had some time to heal, usually between 14 and 21 days.
