  • X-ray Crystallography: Unlocking Atomic Structures & Material Science
While X-rays themselves cannot be used to build a time machine, X-ray crystallography is a powerful tool used to study the atomic and molecular structure of materials.

X-ray crystallography uses X-rays to examine the patterns created when X-rays hit a crystal lattice. These patterns provide information about the arrangement of atoms within the crystal structure, allowing scientists to "see" molecules in atomic detail, including details too small to be seen with optical microscopes.
