  • Understanding the Climate and Weather of Freshwater Marshes

Wetland swamps, bogs and marshes host the highest diversity of species among all the ecosystems, according to the University of California Museum of Paleontology. Wetlands lie in both the freshwater biome and the ocean ecosystem due to the existence of salt and freshwater marshes.

    Marsh Climate

Excessively moist and humid conditions define wetland climate. Specialized plants called hydrophytes thrive in the wet conditions of marshes, according to the University of California Museum of Paleontology.

    Wet Season

Temperate marshes lying along the Atlantic coast experience steady levels of rainfall throughout the year. Subtropical marshes, however, encounter daily rainfall during the wet season from June through September.

    Dry Season

While temperate zones do not really experience a dry season, subtropical areas have a dry season that lasts from October through May, according to the website Floridian Nature.

    Fire

Particularly in the subtropical marshes, dry season brings chances of fire as the water level fluctuates with the weather. According to Floridian Nature, shallow marshes burn on a one to three year cycle, while deep-water marshes encounter fire every three to five years.
