  • Plant Water Uptake: How Stomata Facilitate Transpiration
Water comes out of a plant through tiny pores called stomata (singular: stoma).

    Here's a breakdown:

    * Stomata: These are small openings on the underside of leaves. They are surrounded by guard cells, which control the opening and closing of the stomata.

    * Transpiration: The process of water evaporating from the plant's leaves through the stomata is called transpiration.

    * Evaporation: When water inside the leaves turns into vapor, it escapes through the stomata.

    * Water Movement: This process helps to create a pressure gradient that draws water up from the roots through the plant's vascular system.

So, while we may think of plants drinking water through their roots, they also lose water through their leaves!
