  • Coniferous Trees: Understanding Pines, Cedars, and Yews
Pines, cedars, and yews are all coniferous trees.

    Here's why:

    * Coniferous means "cone-bearing." All these trees produce cones, which are their reproductive structures.

    * Pines are easily recognizable by their needle-like leaves and cones.

    * Cedars also have needle-like leaves but are known for their fragrant wood.

    * Yews have flat, needle-like leaves and berry-like structures (actually fleshy cones) that are often red.

While they are all coniferous, they belong to different genera and families.
