  • Understanding Leaf Growth: Deciduous vs. Evergreen Trees
Not all trees grow back leaves in the summer! There are actually two main types of trees:

    * Deciduous trees: These trees lose their leaves in the fall and winter, and grow new leaves in the spring and summer. This is because they are adapted to colder climates and need to conserve energy during the winter months. Examples of deciduous trees include oak, maple, and birch trees.

    * Evergreen trees: These trees keep their leaves year-round, although they do shed old leaves gradually throughout the year. They have evolved to survive in colder climates where there is less sunlight and colder temperatures. Examples of evergreen trees include pine, fir, and cedar trees.

So, deciduous trees grow back leaves in the summer because they have gone dormant during the winter and are ready to photosynthesize again with the warmer temperatures and longer days.
