  • Creationism: The Historical Explanation for Life's Origins
For over 1500 years, the accepted explanation for the origin and variety of life on Earth was based on special creation, also known as creationism.

This view, rooted in religious texts like the Bible and other religious scriptures, proposed that:

    * A divine being (or beings) created all life forms directly. This meant that species were fixed and unchanging, and their diversity was the result of a deliberate act of creation.

    * The Earth was relatively young, likely only a few thousand years old. This timeframe was incompatible with the vast geological and biological history that we now understand.

This explanation held sway for centuries, becoming deeply intertwined with religious beliefs and cultural norms. It wasn't until the 19th century, with the rise of naturalism and the development of evolutionary theory by Charles Darwin, that the scientific understanding of life's origins began to shift.
