    Coniferous trees are also known as evergreens. This is because they retain their leaves year-round, unlike deciduous trees which lose their leaves in the fall.

    However, it's important to note that not all evergreens are coniferous. There are some broadleaf evergreens, such as rhododendrons and holly, which are not technically coniferous.
