  • Mountains: Abiotic or Biotic? Understanding Geological Formations
A mountain is abiotic. Here's why:

    * Abiotic factors are non-living components of an ecosystem. They include things like rocks, water, air, and sunlight.

    * Biotic factors are the living organisms within an ecosystem, such as plants, animals, bacteria, and fungi.

While a mountain can support a wide variety of life, it is itself a non-living geological formation.
