  • Matter in Your Home: Understanding Everyday Objects
    Pretty much everything in your house is made of matter! Here's why:

    * Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space.

    * Everything you can see and touch has mass (weight) and takes up space.

    Here are some examples of household objects that are matter:

    * Furniture: Tables, chairs, couches, beds

    * Appliances: Refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, washing machine, dryer

    * Electronics: Television, computer, phone, tablet

    * Kitchenware: Plates, cups, silverware, pots, pans

    * Cleaning supplies: Detergent, soap, bleach, sponges

    * Books, magazines, and newspapers

    * Clothing

    * Toys

    * Plants

    * Food

    * Water

    * Air (even though you can't see it, it has mass and takes up space)

    The only things in your house that are *not* matter would be things like light, sound, and heat. These are forms of energy, not matter.
