  • How Leaves Capture Sunlight: The Role of Chloroplasts & Chlorophyll
Light energy from the sun is trapped in the chloroplasts of a leaf.

    Here's why:

    * Chloroplasts are organelles within plant cells that contain the green pigment chlorophyll.

    * Chlorophyll absorbs light energy, primarily in the red and blue wavelengths of the visible spectrum.

    * This absorbed light energy is used to power the process of photosynthesis, where plants convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose (sugar) and oxygen.

So, while the entire leaf is involved in photosynthesis, the chloroplasts within the leaf cells are the specific location where light energy is trapped and used to drive the process.
