  • Elemental Occurrence in Nature: Native & Compound Forms
Elements can occur in nature in two main ways:

    1. Native Elements: These are elements that exist in their pure form, uncombined with other elements. Examples include gold (Au), silver (Ag), copper (Cu), sulfur (S), and carbon (C) in the form of diamond or graphite.

    2. Combined Elements: These are elements that are chemically bonded with other elements to form compounds. The vast majority of elements exist in nature in this form. Examples include water (H₂O), salt (NaCl), and iron oxide (Fe₂O₃).
