  • Understanding Tree Growth: Why Spring is Key
Trees don't *only* grow in spring. They grow throughout the year, but the most noticeable growth happens in spring for a few key reasons:

    * Longer days and warmer temperatures: Spring brings an increase in sunlight hours and a rise in temperature, providing the energy and warmth that trees need to start their growth processes.

    * Increased water availability: Spring often brings more rain, giving trees access to the water they need to transport nutrients and fuel growth.

    * Hormonal changes: Trees have internal clocks that trigger hormonal changes in response to the longer days and warmer temperatures. These hormones stimulate the production of new leaves, flowers, and shoots.

    * Dormancy break: During winter, trees enter a period of dormancy, slowing down their growth and metabolism. As spring arrives, they break out of dormancy and begin to actively grow again.

While spring is the most noticeable period for tree growth, it's important to remember that trees continue to grow throughout the summer and fall, albeit at a slower pace. They even continue to grow slightly during the winter, though it's not as visible.
