    There are not really "four rules" of natural selection, but rather four key principles that govern how it works. These principles are:

    1. Variation: Individuals within a population exhibit variation in their traits. This variation can be in physical characteristics, behaviors, or even metabolic processes.

    2. Inheritance: Some of these variations are heritable, meaning they can be passed on from parents to offspring.

    3. Competition: Organisms compete for resources, such as food, mates, and shelter. Some individuals are better suited to this competition than others.

    4. Differential Survival and Reproduction: Individuals with traits that make them better suited to their environment are more likely to survive and reproduce, passing on those advantageous traits to their offspring.

    These four principles working together drive the process of natural selection. It's important to remember that natural selection is not a conscious force, but rather a consequence of these principles. Over time, natural selection can lead to significant changes in populations, and even the emergence of new species.
