  • Understanding Natural Vegetation: Forests & Grasslands Explained
The three broad categories of natural vegetation are:

    1. Forests: These are dense, closed-canopy plant communities dominated by trees. They can be further classified by factors like climate, dominant tree species, and structure. Examples include tropical rainforests, temperate deciduous forests, boreal forests (taiga), and mangrove forests.

    2. Grasslands: These are open areas dominated by grasses and other herbaceous plants. They are characterized by a lack of trees or a sparse tree population. Examples include prairies, steppes, savannas, and pampas.

    3. Deserts: These are areas with extremely low rainfall and sparse vegetation. They can be hot or cold and are often characterized by specialized plants adapted to water scarcity. Examples include the Sahara Desert, the Atacama Desert, and the Gobi Desert.
