  • Stomata: Understanding Leaf Pores for Gas Exchange
The openings in leaves that allow gases to pass through are called stomata.

Here's a little more about them:

    * Stomata are tiny pores on the surface of leaves, primarily on the underside.

    * They are surrounded by two specialized cells called guard cells.

    * The guard cells can open and close the stomata, regulating the exchange of gases.

    * Carbon dioxide enters the leaf through the stomata for photosynthesis.

    * Oxygen produced during photosynthesis exits the leaf through the stomata.

    * Water vapor also escapes through the stomata in a process called transpiration.

So, stomata are essential for the survival of plants, allowing them to breathe and carry out photosynthesis!
