  • Diffuse Reflection: Understanding Light Scattering on Rough Surfaces
The reflection of light from a rough surface is called diffuse reflection.

    Here's why:

    * Rough surfaces: They have irregularities and bumps at a microscopic level.

    * Light scattering: When light hits these irregularities, it gets scattered in many different directions.

    * Diffuse reflection: This scattering effect results in a blurry or hazy reflection, rather than a clear image.

In contrast, specular reflection occurs when light reflects from a smooth surface, like a mirror, resulting in a sharp, mirrored image.
