  • What's Not the Ocean? Understanding Freshwater Bodies & More
Here are some non-examples of the ocean:

    * Lakes: These are bodies of freshwater, not saltwater.

    * Rivers: These are flowing bodies of freshwater, not saltwater.

    * Ponds: These are smaller bodies of freshwater, not saltwater.

    * Swamps: These are areas of land saturated with water, often with a high concentration of trees.

    * Pools: These are man-made containers of water, usually for swimming or recreation.

    * The atmosphere: This is the layer of gases surrounding the Earth.

    * Deserts: These are arid regions with little to no water.

    * Mountains: These are elevated landforms.

    * Forests: These are areas of land dominated by trees.

    * Cities: These are areas of human habitation.

Essentially, anything that is not a large body of saltwater is not an ocean.
