  • Cypress Oak Acorns: Identification & Key Characteristics
Cypress oak trees (Quercus laurifolia) produce acorns, like all oak trees. However, their acorns have some distinguishing features:

    * Shape: Cypress oak acorns are short and squat compared to other oak acorns. They are oval-shaped and usually less than an inch long.

    * Cap: The cap (cupule) covers about half of the acorn and is flattened, unlike the more rounded caps of other oak species. It often has fuzzy scales.

    * Color: The acorns are green when immature and turn brown when mature. The cap can be a reddish-brown color.

Overall, cypress oak acorns are relatively small and have a distinct, flattened cap that covers a significant portion of the acorn.
