Leaf Color Variation: Understanding the Darker Upper vs. Lighter Lower Side
A leaf is not dark green on one side and light green on the other. Both surfaces of a healthy leaf are green. The top side of the leaf is usually a darker green than the underside because the top side has more chloroplasts. Chloroplasts are the organelles in plant cells that contain chlorophyll, the green pigment that absorbs sunlight and converts it into energy.
