  • Gravity and Mass: How Does Size Affect Gravitational Attraction?
Something heavier than the earth would be attracted to it, whereas something smaller would not be attracted to the earth. This is because the force of gravity is directly proportional to the mass of an object, but inversely proportional to the square of its distance from the center of the earth. So, if an object is more massive than the earth, it will exert a greater gravitational force, even if it is smaller. Conversely, if an object is smaller than the earth, it will exert a lesser gravitational force, even if it is more massive.
