  • White Objects: How Sunlight Creates the Illusion of Whiteness
    Every day objects that reflect all the colours in sunlight are called white objects.

    This is because white objects reflect all the wavelengths of light that make up sunlight. When light hits an object, some of the light is absorbed and some of the light is reflected. The colour of an object depends on which wavelengths of light are reflected.

    For example, a red object reflects red light and absorbs all other colours of light. A green object reflects green light and absorbs all other colours of light. A white object reflects all the wavelengths of light that make up sunlight, so it appears white.

    Some examples of white objects that reflect all the colours in sunlight include:

    * Paper

    * Snow

    * Clouds

    * Milk

    * Sugar

    * Salt
