Marine climate, also called oceanic climate, is the local climate found along the western coasts of continents at middle and high latitudes. As this type of climate is experienced in coastal regions, it exhibits similar characteristics to that of continental climate. However, the presence of large water bodies nearby modifies the weather considerably.

This type of climate shows a moderate range of temperature throughout the year. Summers tend to be drier and cooler than in continental climate, while winters are milder. The annual precipitation is usually high and evenly distributed throughout the year. Rainfall or snowfall is common owing to the high levels of moisture in the air brought in by the oceanic winds.

Areas with marine climate also experience frequent cloudiness and fog. The sky remains overcast more often than not as the moisture rises and cools down upon reaching the cooler layers of the atmosphere. However, strong winds are quite rare.
