  • Refraction of Light: Why Objects Appear Bent Underwater
    The phenomenon that makes objects appear to bend water is called refraction. Refraction is the bending of light as it passes from one medium to another. When light passes from air to water, it bends toward the normal, or the perpendicular line to the surface of the water. This causes objects underwater to appear to be closer to the surface than they actually are.
