    Species affected by climate change have two main options for survival: shift their range or adapt to the changing conditions. The decision of whether to shift or adapt depends on a variety of factors, including the species' ability to disperse, the availability of suitable habitat, and the rate of climate change.

    For some species, shifting their range may be the best option. This is especially true for species that are highly mobile or that have a wide range of habitats. For example, many bird species have been able to shift their ranges northward as the climate has warmed.

    Other species may be unable to shift their range due to barriers such as mountains or oceans. For these species, adaptation may be the only option. Adaptation can take many forms, such as changes in behavior, physiology, or genetics. For example, some plants have developed the ability to tolerate higher temperatures, while some animals have changed their breeding patterns to avoid the hottest months of the year.

    The decision of whether to shift or adapt is a complex one, and there is no easy answer. For some species, shifting their range may be the best option, while for others, adaptation may be the only way to survive.
