  • Family Influence on Entrepreneurial Aspirations: A Look at Inherited Intentions
The entrepreneurial intention has been widely studied in the literature, and several factors have been identified that can influence an individual's decision to become an entrepreneur. These factors include, but are not limited to, personal characteristics such as risk tolerance and self-efficacy, environmental factors such as access to resources and role models, and social factors such as family and peer influence.

A growing body of research suggests that family and peer influence can have a significant impact on an individual's entrepreneurial intention. Some studies have found that individuals who are exposed to entrepreneurial role models in their family or peer group are more likely to develop entrepreneurial intentions than those who are not. This is likely because these individuals have the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship from a firsthand perspective and can observe the rewards and challenges of entrepreneurship firsthand.

Other studies have found that social support from family and peers can also influence an individual's entrepreneurial intention. Social support can come in many forms, such as providing emotional encouragement, financial support, or advice and guidance. Individuals who have access to social support are more likely to feel confident in their ability to succeed as an entrepreneur and are therefore more likely to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.

The relationship between family and peer influence and entrepreneurial intention is complex, and there is still much that we do not know about the mechanisms through which these factors affect an individual's decision to become an entrepreneur. However, the evidence suggests that family and peer influence can play a significant role in shaping an individual's entrepreneurial intentions.

In addition to the studies mentioned above, there are several other studies that have explored the relationship between family and peer influence and entrepreneurial intention. Some of these studies include:

    * A study by Nabi et al. (2011) found that individuals who were exposed to entrepreneurial role models in their family were more likely to develop entrepreneurial intentions than those who were not.

    * A study by Shane et al. (2003) found that individuals who had social support from family and friends were more likely to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities than those who did not.

    * A study by Fayolle and Gailly (2015) found that both family and peer influence can have a positive effect on an individual's entrepreneurial intention, but that the effect of peer influence was stronger than the effect of family influence.

    * A study by Li et al. (2016) found that the relationship between family and peer influence and entrepreneurial intention was mediated by self-efficacy.

These studies provide further evidence to support the idea that family and peer influence can have a significant impact on an individual's entrepreneurial intention.
