  • COVID-19 and Deer Hunting: Safety Guidelines for Hunters
While there have been rare reports of deer testing positive for COVID-19, the risk of transmission from deer to humans is considered low.

However, here are some guidelines for hunters to be aware of to minimize the risk of transmission

    * Avoid handling or consuming venison from deer that appear sick or show signs of COVID-19 such as respiratory symptoms or abnormal behavior

*Thoroughly cook venison to its recommended internal temperature before consumption in case the animal carries the disease

*Wear disposable gloves when field dressing deer and when handling raw venison. Wash hands

    thoroughly when done.

*Avoid contact with the eyes, nose or mouth when handling raw venison
