That's a lot of species! According to the Catalogue of Life, there are an estimated 8.7 million species on Earth, of which about 1.9 million are animals, 300,000 are plants, and the rest are fungi, protists, and monera. Of course, this number is constantly changing as new species are discovered or others go extinct, so it's hard to say for sure how many species there are at any given time.
