    Ancient Egyptian bodies were often embalmed with a variety of materials, including pine resin, balsam, and bitumen. These materials were used to preserve the body and to give it a pleasant smell. The smell of an ancient Egyptian corpse would have been strong and pungent, but it would not have been unpleasant.
