  • Bald Eagles & Prairie Dogs: Understanding the Great Plains Ecosystem
While bald eagles are known to have diverse diets, there is no evidence to support that they prey on prairie dogs. Researchers have extensively studied the feeding habits of bald eagles and have documented their consumption of various fish species, waterfowl, small mammals, and carrion. Prairie dogs, on the other hand, are primarily herbivorous and form social colonies in grasslands and shrublands. While they can fall victim to predators like coyotes, wolves, and eagles, bald eagles are not commonly associated with hunting prairie dogs.
