A new study has found that personality type can help predict who is single or in a relationship, and how happy they are in their relationship.
The study, which was published in the journal *Personality and Individual Differences*, found that people who are more extroverted and agreeable are more likely to be in a relationship, while those who are more neurotic and shy are more likely to be single.
The study also found that people who are more conscientious and open to new experiences are more likely to be happy in their relationships, while those who are more extroverted and agreeable are less likely to be happy in their relationships.
The researchers behind the study say that their findings could help people to better understand their own relationship preferences and to make better choices about who to date.
“Our findings suggest that personality type can play a role in relationship formation and satisfaction,” said study lead author Dr. David Buss, a professor of psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. “By understanding our own personality type and the personality types of our potential partners, we can make better decisions about who to date and how to build a successful relationship.”
The study involved over 1,000 adults who were asked about their personality type, their relationship status, and their relationship satisfaction. The researchers found that the following personality traits were associated with being single or in a relationship:
* Extroversion: Extroverts are more likely to be in a relationship than introverts.
* Agreeableness: Agreeable people are more likely to be in a relationship than disagreeable people.
* Neuroticism: Neurotic people are more likely to be single than non-neurotic people.
* Shyness: Shy people are more likely to be single than outgoing people.
The researchers also found that the following personality traits were associated with relationship satisfaction:
* Conscientiousness: Conscientious people are more likely to be happy in their relationships than non-conscientious people.
* Openness to new experiences: Open people are more likely to be happy in their relationships than closed people.
* Extroversion: Extroverts are less likely to be happy in their relationships than introverts.
* Agreeableness: Agreeable people are less likely to be happy in their relationships than disagreeable people.
The researchers say that their findings could help people to better understand their own relationship preferences and to make better choices about who to date.
“By understanding our own personality type and the personality types of our potential partners, we can make better decisions about who to date and how to build a successful relationship,” said Dr. Buss.
