    While climate change may have been a contributing factor, it was not the sole cause of the collapse of the Mayan civilization. Numerous complex and interconnected factors, including prolonged drought, political instability, warfare, overpopulation, deforestation, and mismanagement of resources, all played significant roles in the decline of the Mayan society.
