  • How to Plot a Line Segment on a Graphing Calculator – Step‑by‑Step Guide

By Tricia Lobo, Updated Aug 30 2022

In algebra, students often rely on graphing calculators to visualize lines, functions, and particularly line segments. While you can sketch a segment by hand, a calculator can instantly plot it, giving you an accurate visual reference for any pair of points.

Step 1: Open the Drawing Menu

Navigate to the Draw menu and choose Line. The calculator will display the Line(…) command.

    Step 2: Input the Endpoints

Enter the coordinates of the two endpoints, separated by commas, in the format Line(X1,Y1,X2,Y2). For example, to plot a segment from (0, 3) to (1, 2), type Line(0,3,1,2).

    Step 3: Plot the Segment

Press Enter and the calculator will display the line segment between the specified points.
