The Greek letter theta (θ) is a versatile symbol in mathematics, often used as a placeholder for angles in trigonometry and polar coordinates. While it has no fixed meaning, its usage varies with context. If you’re having trouble locating the theta symbol on your TI‑84 Plus, the solution is straightforward: enable Polar mode and use a simple key combination.

    1. Turn on Your TI‑84

Press the On button. A brief welcome screen will appear; press 1 to bypass it on future starts, or press 2 to proceed to the home screen immediately.

    2. Switch to Polar Mode

Press the MODE key. Use the down arrow to navigate to the line that reads Function Parametric Polar SEQ. Then use the right arrow until Polar is highlighted and press ENTER. In Polar mode, the calculator treats r as a function of θ, which is essential for using the theta symbol.

    3. Insert the Theta Symbol

With Polar mode active, type the Greek letter θ by pressing ALPHA followed by the 8 key. The result is the lowercase θ. For the uppercase Θ, press ALPHA and then SHIFT + 8 (if your model supports it). This key combination is available in the home screen, function entry, and any other input field.

Once you’ve entered θ, you can incorporate it into function definitions, parametric equations, or sequences. This simple step unlocks a wide range of polar graphing capabilities on your TI‑84.
