  • Understanding Basic Solutions: pH, Hydroxide, and Alkalinity
    There's no single "basic solution" number. Here's why:

    * Basic solutions refer to a concept in chemistry, not a specific numerical value. A basic solution is one that has a higher concentration of hydroxide ions (OH-) than hydrogen ions (H+).

    * pH scale measures acidity and basicity. A pH of 7 is neutral. Values below 7 are acidic, and values above 7 are basic (alkaline).

    * The level of basicity can vary widely. A solution with a pH of 8 is considered slightly basic, while a solution with a pH of 14 is extremely basic.

    To determine if a solution is basic, you need to know its pH.
