  • Understanding Latitude and Longitude Units: Degrees Explained
The unit of measure used with lines of latitude and longitude is degrees (°).

    Here's why:

    * Latitude: Lines of latitude are imaginary circles that run parallel to the equator, measuring distance north or south of the equator.

    * Longitude: Lines of longitude are imaginary circles that run from the North Pole to the South Pole, measuring distance east or west of the Prime Meridian.

Each circle is divided into 360 degrees, and these degrees are further subdivided into minutes (') and seconds (").
