  • Twitter Reportedly Exploring 10,000 Character Tweets – What It Means
Twitter reportedly considering increasing tweet length to 10,000 characters

Twitter is reportedly considering lifting its 280-character limit for tweets and experimenting with much longer posts of up to 10,000 characters, according to a new report.

While Twitter has recently been experimenting with new features such as longer audio clips and the ability to edit tweets, this would be a major change to its core product.

The report suggests that Twitter may introduce a new type of post for long-form content, distinct from regular tweets. These longer posts could include images, videos and other media.

Twitter users have long been frustrated by the character limit which can make it difficult to express complex thoughts or provide detailed information in a single tweet.

Some Twitter users were enthusiastic about the prospect of being able to write longer posts, with some describing it as a"game changer" while others were more sceptical.

In February 2022, Twitter experimented with allowing some users to post tweets of up to 2,500 characters, but it's unclear whether the feature was widely adopted or received positive feedback from users.

Twitter's potential move to longer posts could face competition from emerging social media platforms that already offer longer formats such as Mastodon.
