* A new survey from Pew Research Center finds that while Facebook is still the most popular social media platform in the United States, many users are confused about how it works.
* Half of all Facebook users say they don’t understand how the News Feed algorithm works, and more than one-third say they don’t know how to change their privacy settings.
* Additionally, many users are unhappy with the content they see in their News Feeds. Only 38% of users say they see the right amount of posts from friends and family, and just 27% say they see the right amount of posts from news organizations.
* The survey also found that Republicans and Democrats are increasingly divided in their use of Facebook. Republicans are more likely to get their news from Facebook than Democrats, and they are also more likely to share and comment on political posts.
As Facebook continues to grow in popularity, it will be important for the company to find ways to address the concerns of its users. Improving transparency around the News Feed algorithm and giving users more control over their privacy settings could help to restore some of the trust that has been lost in recent years. Additionally, Facebook needs to find ways to create a more inclusive platform that appeals to all users, regardless of their political affiliation.
