  • Why No Animal Fossils in Granite? Understanding Rock Formation
Animal remains are rarely found in granite, not because it's impossible, but due to the following reasons:

    * Granite formation: Granite is an igneous rock formed deep within the Earth's crust from molten magma. The intense heat and pressure involved in this process would destroy any organic matter, including animal remains.

    * Time scale: Granite formation takes millions of years. Any animal remains present during the formation would be completely destroyed and incorporated into the rock's structure.

    * Depositional environment: Granite forms in environments where there is little to no deposition of sediments, which is where animal remains are usually found.

    Exceptions:

While rare, there are a few exceptions to this rule:

    * Fossils in weathered granite: Weathering and erosion of granite can expose underlying layers containing fossils. These fossils may be remnants of animals that lived before the granite formed.

    * Intrusive granite: Sometimes, magma intrudes into existing rock layers. If these layers contain animal remains, they might become embedded within the granite. However, the heat from the magma would likely alter or destroy the remains.

Overall, finding animal remains in granite is extremely unlikely due to the extreme conditions of its formation. However, it's not entirely impossible, and there are rare instances where fossils have been found in weathered granite or intrusive bodies.
