  • Deposition: Understanding Sediment Accumulation in Erosion
The dropping off of bits of eroded rocks is called deposition.

    Here's why:

    * Erosion: This is the process of wearing away and transporting rock material by wind, water, or ice.

    * Deposition: This is the process where the eroded material (sediments) is dropped or deposited in a new location.

So, when eroded rock bits are carried away by a river, wind, or glacier, and then eventually settle down in a new place, that's called deposition.
