    The name given to any of the layers of soil from the surface to bedrock is soil profile.

    A soil profile is a vertical cross-section of the soil, showing the different layers or horizons. Each horizon has unique physical, chemical, and biological characteristics that are influenced by factors such as climate, vegetation, parent material, topography, and time.
