1. Oceanic Crust: This type of crust is found beneath the ocean basins. It is denser and thinner than continental crust, composed primarily of basalt and gabbro. It is typically around 5-10 kilometers thick.
2. Continental Crust: This type of crust makes up the continents. It is thicker and less dense than oceanic crust, composed mainly of granite and other felsic rocks. It can be up to 70 kilometers thick in some places.
Both oceanic and continental crust can be found within the same tectonic plate. For example, the North American Plate contains both oceanic crust along its western edge (where it meets the Pacific Plate) and continental crust across the rest of its expanse.
