    The layer of the Earth you're describing is the mantle.

    Here's why:

    * Thickness: The mantle is roughly 1800 miles (2900 km) thick, making it the largest layer by volume.

    * Temperature: The mantle's temperature ranges from around 1000°C (1832°F) at the top to over 3700°C (6700°F) at the bottom.

    While the core is even hotter, it's significantly smaller than the mantle.
