  • Earth's Surface: Understanding Curvature and Flat Representations
The Earth doesn't have a single, flat plane surface. It's a sphere, which means it's curved in all directions.

However, we often talk about flat surfaces on Earth:

    * Local areas: If you're looking at a small area, like a field or a city, it can appear flat.

    * Maps: Maps are flat representations of the Earth's surface, but they use different projections to distort the shape and size of features to fit a flat surface.

    * The horizon: The line where the sky and the Earth seem to meet is a flat line that forms the horizon, even though the Earth is round.

So, it's important to remember that the Earth is a sphere, but we often perceive and represent parts of it as flat.
