  • Where is Earth's New Crust Formed? Mid-Ocean Ridges Explained
The most recently formed crust of the Earth can be found at mid-ocean ridges.

    Here's why:

    * Seafloor Spreading: Mid-ocean ridges are underwater mountain ranges where new oceanic crust is created. This happens through a process called seafloor spreading.

    * Plate Tectonics: The Earth's crust is divided into tectonic plates that move and interact. At mid-ocean ridges, plates pull apart, allowing magma from the Earth's mantle to rise and solidify, creating new oceanic crust.

    * Age Gradient: As you move away from a mid-ocean ridge, the age of the oceanic crust increases. This is because the newly formed crust is constantly being pushed away from the ridge as more crust forms.

So, the youngest oceanic crust is always being created at the mid-ocean ridges!
