  • Drumlin Orientation: Determining Glacial Advance Direction
    If the steep side of a drumlin is on the northeast, it indicates that the glacier advanced from the southwest.

    Here's why:

    * Drumlins form beneath glaciers: They are elongated hills of glacial till (sediment deposited by glaciers).

    * The steep side faces the direction of glacial movement: The glacier's weight and pressure create the steep side as it pushes and sculpts the sediment.

    * Opposite direction: Since the steep side is northeast, the glacier must have been flowing from the opposite direction, which is southwest.
