  • Halite: Understanding Rock Salt and Evaporite Formations
Halite is a type of evaporite rock.

    Here's why:

    * Evaporites are sedimentary rocks formed by the evaporation of water, leaving behind dissolved minerals.

    * Halite is the mineral name for rock salt (NaCl), which is a common mineral found in evaporite deposits.

So, when seawater or other saline water evaporates, the halite (rock salt) precipitates out and forms layers of evaporite rock.
