  • Minerals: Understanding the Building Blocks of Earth's Rocks
The inorganic or nonliving elements existing naturally on Earth and present in all rocks are called minerals.

    Here's why:

    * Inorganic: Minerals are not derived from living organisms.

    * Naturally occurring: They form through geological processes, not artificial synthesis.

    * Solid: Minerals have a definite crystalline structure.

    * Elements: They are composed of specific chemical elements.

    * Present in rocks: Minerals are the building blocks of rocks.

While there are many minerals, some are found in almost all rocks, forming the basis of the Earth's crust. These are often called major rock-forming minerals.
